Happy Valentine!!! History behind it.

Today is 14th Feb, The lover’s day. The Valentine Day. Everybody knows about this day from the very day he knew the meaning of love and hardly misses this day unnoticed any year. Yes, there might be case for many; this day does not make any difference. But still he/she wishes it to be special and at least remembers the dear ones or tries to scan the past love life. For those having the affair, it is a day of surprise and suspense. It’s just like extravaganza for them and a day just like an anniversary.

Every day has its own history, so does this Valentine day. So I was so curious lately to know the hidden suspense of this day and here is the story.

The first legend, and perhaps the best known, began in Rome, when the Emperor, Claudius II, was involved in many bloody and unpopular campaigns. “Claudius the Cruel” as he as called, was having a difficult time getting soldiers to join his military leagues.

He believed that the reason was that Roman men did not want to leave their loves or families. So, he canceled all marriages and engagements in Rome!

The good Saint Valentine, who was a priest in Rome, in the year 269 A.D., together with his friend Saint Marius, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret.When Valentine's actions were discovered, he was sentenced to be beaten to death with clubs and to have his head cut off.

But while in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl, who may have been his jailor's daughter, who visited him during his confinement. Before his death on the 14th day of February, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed

"From your Valentine"

In 496 A.D., Pope Gelasius set aside February 14 to honor St. Valentine.

Another legend says that Valentine's Day started ...

In ancient Rome, on February 14th, a holiday to honor Juno. Juno was the Queen of the Roman Gods and Goddesses. The Romans also knew her as the Goddess of women and marriage. Then, the following day, February 15th, began the Feast of Lupercalia.

In those days, the lives of young boys and girls were strictly separate. However, on the eve of the festival of Lupercalia, the names of Roman girls were written on slips of paper and placed into jars. Each young man would draw a girl's name from the jar and would then be partners for the duration of the festival with the girl whom he chose. Sometimes the pairing of the children lasted an entire year, and often, they would fall in love and would later marry.

I wish you all very happy Valentine day with your especial one and may love flourish in your life for ever.

Modern Maths: Something Funny!!

We might have learned so many theorems, postulates and axioms and also solved a lot many equations to prove each.These all are the old and traditional one. Here is something funny related to Modern Maths. It seems funny but makes sense. Check once..

Equation 1

Human = eat + sleep + work + enjoy

Donkey = eat + sleep

Therefore,

Human = Donkey + work + enjoy

Therefore,

Human - enjoy = Donkey + work

In other words,

Human that don't know enjoy = Donkey that work

===================================================

Equation 2

Men = eat + sleep + earn money

Donkeys = eat + sleep

Therefore,

Men = Donkeys + earn money

Therefore,

Men - earn money = Donkeys

In other words,

Men that don't earn money = Donkeys

====================================================

Equation 3

Women = eat + sleep + spend

Donkeys = eat + sleep

Therefore,

Women = Donkeys + spend

Therefore,

Women - spend = Donkeys

In other words,

Women that don't spend = Donkeys

=====================================================

To Conclude:

From Equation 2 and Equation 3

Men that don't earn money = Women that don't spend.

So, Men earn money not to let women become Donkeys! (Postulate 1)

And, Women spend not to let men become Donkeys! (Postulate 2)

So, we have…

Men + Women = Donkeys + earn money + Donkeys + spend money

Therefore…from Postulates 1 and 2, we can conclude

Man + Woman = 2 Donkeys that live happily together!

Nepali Flag in my Blog!!!

I am so surprised to see Nepali Flag displayed automatically in my blog for the 1st time. But its not a miracle nor it is a nightmare and neither it is a Black Magic. It is just a coincidence one more time.

All the seven flags of SAARC nations are there with the name South Asian Public Health forum.It might be the intellectuality of Google Adsense server because it was displayed in my blog in 26th Jan, The Republic Day of India. Actually Google puts the ads dynamically depending on the contents and geographical location. I don't know it also equally takes care of the especial occasion.

Advertisement of SAARC Forum in Nepali Blog in the Indian's Replublic day. Isn't it the Coincidence once again. I felt so glad that google identified my blog as Nepali Blog.

FYI. flag marked with red in the above pics is my Nation's Flag.
Only one of its Kind among all.

www.alapot.blogspot.com is upgraded to www.alapot.com

After more than one and half years in my blogging journey, I launched my blog with my own .com dropping the blogspot from my url. Now i am available in www.alapot.com, a short and sweet name. But those who are accustomed with www.alapot.blogspot.com also dont have to worry about because that will also redirect to my same blog. I did this just to get rid of blogspot from readers views but still I am hosting my blog from same blogspot as i feel it simple and easy and also may be sort of mutual harmony. In fact,Blogspot.com is the MiLeStOnE for me in bloggosphere.

Initially I faced few problems in publishing my blog with new domain name and may be many of my dear readers might have faced ERROR 404 while logging into my blog. It was due to same technical errors and also delay in transition.Now it is working fine.

Most of my readers may be wondering about my blog url www.alapot.com. What actually alapot is all about.. Is it the nick name of mine??or something else.. Still a big question mark.. Whatsoever it may be.. It's a MiLeStoNe for me and my life. I will come to you with next post elaborating detail about it.Big mystery behind a small thing. Till then enjoy reading alapot.com.

I would like to thank Hem and Prajwal who helped(insisted) me lot to get upgraded to alapot.com from alapot.blogspot.com. I also like to thank all my well-wishers who consistently helped me to make gradual improvement in the quality and look of my blog with their comments and suggestion and looking forward the same in future.

How I am in New Look??

You may be wondering what I am talking about. I am not asking you about me , I am talking about my new look and feel of my blog. Change is so obvious in everybody/everything with time. It's just like survival of fittest (Darwin Theory).I was also bored with same outlook of my blog since long and was jealous of others fancy blog. This is not the 1st time I go with new template. I guess it has been more than 4-5 times I changed the look of my blog since I landed in blogosphere on 20th April 2007.Check out my 1st blog post with my intro and appeal to you all my dear readers.

I was planning to make my blog in three columns since long back. But I kept postponing for tomorrow and tomorrow always remained tomorrow only. But I really want to thank Prajwal (my good friend &young brother) ,who really insisted me so much to change my blog template. He is debut blogger and admin of Chatting website,Hamrochat.com  and recently launched new forum. Besides, I also got couple of comments/suggestions from my dear reader to clean up my blog. So today I might find it so auspicious and finally changed to a new template of my choice.

So I give full right to my all dear readers to judge this new look of my blog and hopefully looking forwards for many more comments and suggestion as usual. I am also coming up with few new changes in my blog very soon.. Till then, keep waiting.

Heartfelt Condolence:: My Favourite TV show presenter Indra Lohani passed away.

I didn’t believe once I heard Indra Lohani, Presenter of TV program ‘BAHAS’ passed away when I was listening online Ujyaalo FM at around 10 PM, Friday. When I get spare time, I listen Nepali news and folk music online in Ujyaalo FM which broadcasts live news every hour. I was quite nervous and impatiently waited for the Headlines to repeat at the end of bulletin. But it was not covered in Headlines. Then, I got so confused. What I listened in the news , was it true? He is so young. How can it be? Such things came in my mind.

Only the google.com is 1st option to clear any ambiguity. I searched with the key word “INDRA LOHANI”. So many results appeared with the news like “Breaking News: Advocate Indra Lohani passes away”, “TV Anchor Indra Lohani dies” and so on. I really felt so bad and his images and his poses in BAHAS program (this is only the program I saw him) got flash back in my mind.

This was news I read 1st regarding his demise. It was updated by ANLUS (Assocaition of NepaleseLawyers and Scholars in the US)

BREAKING NEWS: Advocate Indra Lohani passes away

BREAKING NEWS
Indra Lohani passes away

Supreme Court Advocate Indra Lohani passed away at Norvic Hospital in Kathmandu Friday evening. He was dead upon arrival at the hospital at 8.10 p.m., said Dr Sudhansu KC, one of the doctors at the hospital. The cause of death is not known yet. (republica).

Advocate Indra P. Lohani was an Associate Attorney with Dhruba Bar Singh Thapa & Associates (Anam Nagar, P.O. Box 828, Kathmandu, Nepal -Telephone: +977-1 425 7991; 423 9872, Fax: +977-1 435 0866; 425 2610,Email: lexnepal@ntc.net.np. He completed BL from Tribhuwan University, LLM in Business Law from National Law School, India and was a member of major national and international bar associations.

I then read all the news one by one. “Actually he had taken his four-year-old daughter for an outing to Guheswori temple at 5 p.m. He had complained of discomfort at the temple and had fainted for a while. After he regained consciousness, he asked locals to drop him at home. The advocate passed away because of cardic attack while being rushed from his house to the Norvic hospital. Lohani was a blood pressure patient. His body will be kept on the premises of Nepal Bar Association at 9 am on Saturday for final tributes. Lohani is survived by his wife, two daughters, father and mother. He was a permanent resident of Maharaji Jhoda of Jhapa district. He had been working as producer and presenter of TV talk shows for over a decade.”

I shared this sad news with my roommates and called my friend,HEM, who is also one of his fans like me. We used to appreciate him and his presentation skills in TV show “BAHAS”. I also had a chat with my friend Rajiv, who is a lawyer and working at Hyderbad. He is also fan of him and had a dream to talk with Lohani personally. In fact, Lohani was from him home town, Jhapa, Topgachi and one of the good friends of his father.

We thought he was only a guy with guts in media because he never feared to put truth outright in voice of general public while interviewing the politicians in/out the government even at the time of major crisis in the nation like King Massacre, Emergency etc. I never missed even a single episode of his program right from the starting till I stayed in Nepal. Even here in India, I sometimes watched his program online from Nepalnews.com. I was really so impressed by his skill of putting question sequentially supported by all written proofs and chronological evidences. He had depth knowledge in every issue and scrutinized every problem so well that he had hundreds of counter questions for each reply of politician. He didn’t like any hanky-panky and round about talk in his show that just might create ambiguity in general public. So he bluntly asked all in his talk show to answer in the language of general citizen. In his own words “Kripaya Janata le Bhujne Bhasha Ma Bhanidinus”. He stopped right there when anyone in the show tried to deviate the point of discussion. He used to give options for the answer i.e either A or B when politician tried to escape his question with diplomatic answer.These are the things that really fascinated me . He was simply the best TV show presenter for discussion forum. After all he was the senior advocate and also former Secretary of Bar Association.

Prachandra Interview with Indra Lohani in TV talk show 'BAHAS'

I gave him Nick Name BANGE ( person with twisted body.plz don’t take it wrong meaning) because of his poses in his interview. He used to twist his body so much while interviewing and stared so suspiciously on the faces of participants such that they might get scared to tell lie. He is famous in my friend circle and family with his Nickname BANGE than his real name. It might be just a nightmare for all the politician to be interviewed by him. Now our entire politician might respite.

Hundreds of people -- justices, politicians, civil society members, journalists and others -- gathered at Bar Association premises to pay homage to Lohani as final tribute.The funeral procession began at about 12.15 pm on saturday. The body was taken to Pashupati Aryaghat for cremation. One of his relatives consigned his body to flame. Thousands of relatives, friends and well wishers had gathered at the Crematorium for Lohani´s last rites.

Lohani Last Rites Performed at Pasthupati Nath Crematorium

The legal fraternity , Media and Country as a whole lost a versatile and dynamic person. Everybody who is the fan of Lohani , is in deep sorrow in his untimely demise. I expressed heartfelt condolence and prayed for peace for departed soul. May almighty give strength to his family members to resist this unrecoverable loss.

Now I am wondering who will run the Talk show program BAHAS. I did not find any face who is as competent as him for that show. But whoever he/she may be, he won’t be able to take Lohani’s space from the heart of his fan. He will always be missed and remembered.

Once Again Coincidence. This Time In Early Morning...

Today I had morning shift. Shift plan keeps on changing in my project. So I almost have to work around the clock, 24*7(Including leave). Morning Shift means early morning, I have to reach office by 7 AM and leave at any time after 4. It takes more than half an hour to reach office around 30 KMs far from my flat.

Previously there was separate cab for each project and we could adjust sometime. But now there is no such separate cab. Admin had changed the policy in name of cost-cutting during this recession time. Now, there is a general cab that picks and drops the employees of particular area irrespective of project. And every day different cab comes as per their turn. We get the cab number and driver’s cell number in message from Travel Time(Team that look after the arrangement of Cab) every day an hour(s) before our pick and we have to intimate our detail address to cab driver beforehand. In case of morning shift, Cab comes a bit early around 6.15 coz it has to pick few more guys after me.

Story starts from here…………………..

I am habituated to sleep late night and wake up late in the morning (it’s better to say afternoon) as I was having night or late afternoon shift since last couple of months. So I could not sleep early even though I have to wake up early. I was in deep sleep when I got the message from Travel-Time and woke up by the long miss call of cab driver. It was 5.55 AM. I called cab driver to ask him to come a bit late as I had so many things to do. But He was telling he would reach my place by 15-20 mins because he had to pick three more (2 guys and a gal/lady).It was very unpleasant to leave the warm blanket and then took bath in this chilled winter, that also in early morning. It is not less than a punishment. I remember my school days when I used to wake up very early morning during exams. I didn’t know myself how I got ready within 15 mins. Might be I did somthing so fast like MR. BEAN . I was just thinking to have a cup of coffee, I got a missed call. Driver told me he already reached my place and waiting me nearby new building under construction. This is just around 200m away from flat. I was so surprised how the cab came so near to my flat else I always have to walk up to main road because he could not make out my actual address. I asked him to wait 5 more minutes. I changed in hurry, took the office card and bag and rushed out asking my rommie (who were snoring in deep sleep) to lock the door. Every time when I am in hurry, there is maximum probability to forget something important like admit card while going for exam, bus/train tickets while going for long tour, prescription while going to buy medicine and so on. So I always try to recheck once when I leave in hurry. Then I came to know I didn’t get my wallet. By that time I was on the half way. But there was alternative to run back else I had to do fasting for a day.

Cab was taking the turn once he saw me. I always check the cab number that I receive in message before I get in because every day there is different driver and different cab. It was dark and my eyes were dazzled by the intense headlight of cab. So I could not make out its number plate. I was almost shivering and felt so warm and cozy once I sat inside the cab. I asked driver how u came so near to my place today and he replied that he had come for my drop few days back. But I didn’t remember his face. But it was not the big deal. Every day I have different driver. He told me there were two more pick and asking me their address as if I knew all. I just checked the print out list of employee and their address. That address was new for me. But I saw one name of one more guy in my same colony. But I never meet him.

I got a call. I was wondering who was calling me early morning. Didn’t I forget anything more so that my room partner was calling to remind me. But it was driver number itself and I asked him to check his mobile. Because most of time it happens to me when I forget to lock the keypad. It calls to the recently dialed number and also sends sometimes blank messages. It happens because calling key get pressed unknowingly when mobile is in pocket. He didn’t get his mobile. How could he, if I was sitting on it. He might keep the mobile in side seat after talking with me. He got scared for a while thinking his mobile was lost.

I asked him to give miss call to next person otherwise he would also make us wait for sometimes. But this time it was not he. It was SHE. I was wondering who SHE was. I would have seat in the back seat instead of front so I could have some conversation with her. These things were just going in my mind when he was calling her to get ready. But unfortunately her shift was cancelled. So unlucky me . Then I asked the driver when he left the company for my pick up. He told he came to Sinhgad Road(5 KM away from my place) for 4 AM drop and after sleeping an hour he came for my pick. I was thinking he might come directly from company as I didn’t know somebody shift gets over by 4 AM. He told me there was drop every hour in night. “It is American company. So people work in night.” –He was telling to me. It is just like a Nepali proverb ‘Indra ko agadi swarga ko bayan’ (Explaining the beauty of heaven in front of god Indra). I asked him then how many people were left to pick up. He said no one. I got confused that when I spoke with him in phone he was telling that there were 2 guys and 1 gal. I thought I was in half asleep at that time.

Then I was wondering why the cab was heading to opposite direction. I was waiting that he would take a turn from next signal because it is not wise to show the direction for the drivers. They know each n every corners of the city. Sometime I think it’s their inborn talent. Once he crossed next signal also, I could not hold myself and asked where actually we were heading. He replied Amdocs. I could not hear clearly as the FM volume was quite high. I again asked WHERE?? ---- AMDOCS.. Why we were going there?? Then he asked – “you are not the employee of AMDOCS?” and I asked instead of replying –“Is it not the cab of COGNIZANT?” And he answered-“NO”. Oh god! what happened? It was already 10 minutes I was in wrong cab. He also instantly took the U-turn because it was already late for him also and he picked wrong guy. Then within a minute I recall all the events past 10 minutes.

• The Cab came to my almost nearby my flat which never happened.
• I could not check the cab number because my intense focus of headlight.
• Driver’s face was a bit unfamiliar.
• I saw the name of one guy staying in my colony whom I never meet in the printout. Actually that was the guy for whom cab came there to pick up.
• I got the missed call from the Driver Number. Actually my driver was calling me being fed up to wait for long time.
• He was telling that he came up for 4 AM drop while I knew that he always used to come from office directly.
• He was telling there was drop in every hour in night. I know the frequency of drop after mid night is very rare.
• He told me there was no more pick up (after girl shift was cancelled) while in phone he clearly told me there were 3 more guys after me.

Even after so many clues I never felt that I was boarded in wrong cab. If the cab was not heading to just opposite direction of my office, I would not be able to notice this fact so early. Don’t know what I would have done if I got the second miss call from the driver. That might be great mystery at that time.

He also got the call from his employee and I called to my driver. The poor driver was still there. How patiently was he waiting for me?

Like I didn’t recognize my driver, the driver of that Amdocs also didn’t recognize the employee because they also might have general cab facility like our company. All happens due to recession.
Thanx god! It was the cab of AMDOCS( the location of this company is just in opposite pole of the city with respect to my company).

Isn’t this a great coincidence? What say??

Easier Said Than Done :: Corruption continues...

" Jun Jogi Aaye Pani Kannai Chireko"

This is one of well known Nepali proverb which is in tongue tip of all Nepalese. We, Nepalese, experienced the regime of all political parties and didn't find so much difference in the governance of any except its name alone. Public have great expectation in this government of Maiosts who really struggled so hard for the sovereignty and Republic Nepal sacrificing thousands of innocent lives. Nepalese people have to despair this time also as usual. Even after more than six months of formation of new Republic Nepal, Government is not able to console the public putting forward few positive symptoms of developments. Despites, unemployment,disorders and insecurity still prevail as usual and development is adversely affected by intolerable load-shedding for 12 hours a day. People are just starving for survival. Scores of small, medium and large scale industries are force to shut down due to interruptible power supply.

While talking with my family members and friends staying Nepal, i came to know that life in Nepal is simply horrible. Twelve hours load shedding is not a joke. And who is responsible for this. There is no one other than government to be blamed.

Today only i got the mail from one of my friend who is doing his final year MBBS from AIMS, India. After reading this mail i was forced to think that like any other government, government is also busy in doing internal setting of posting the relative in higher and key post of administration. Those who protested for monopoly and autocracy in governance are themselves get engrossed in family business.

Please do check below to see what our two leading heads of our government are doing.

4. Renu Pathak (CA member), Prachanda's daughter
5. Arjun Pathak (Officer of CA), Prachanda's son-in-law
6. Prakash Dahal (Prime Minister's PA/accountant), Prachanda's son, salary equal to the under-secretary
7. Narayan Dahal (CA member), Prachanda's nephew
8. Thakur Bhatta (Prachanda's brother-in-law)
9. Another son-in-law (contractor of Chitwan Cantonment)

Baburam's relatives
1. Hisila Yami (Tourist Minister), Baburam's wife
2. Taranaj Pandey (PM's adviser), Baburam's nephew
3. Praya Yami (National Planning Commission), Hisila's older sister
4. Timila Yami (Chairperson of Drinking Water Project), Hisila's older sister

6. Baburam's younger brother (Tariff -fixing Committee), Head of Kathmandu Drinking water.

If this is true, isn't it Easier said than done.

What a Coincidence!!

Yesterday, I met one Nepali colleague in my ofis at late night. Here is the story how i met her.

During my night shift, I went canteen late around midnight to get something to eat at night. Canteen is in next building about 300 yards away from my building. Today, I saw two gals near the entrance of Canteen and they were discussing in English .I thought it’s the style of gals. I took one juice, biscuit and lays(wafer).That much we could take with a single night coupon... Just before I finished my transaction at counter with canteen boy, they left the canteen taking their stuffs. They finished the kitchen’s bread taking 4 sandwiches. Else I always used to have one veg sandwich or bread item.. I never have seen these gals before in my 6 months long night shift. Gals are comparatively less preferred for night shift as well. I thought they are newly allocated to project. New comers are always loaded with night shifts. This is the tendency in my project.

I rushed back to my building as I had made few of my friends wait in facebook . There are 3 different buildings in my company premises in three different directions of the canteen. I thought they might belong to different annex else i might have seen them before. But surprisingly they were heading towards my building itself. But nowadays I am not interested talking with others as nobody cares no one in S/W industry. So I just overtook them in the middle of the way. I took lift that I rarely used just to bypass them. Just when lift door was about to close, I saw them rushing towards the lift. I was obliged to press the stop button of the lift. In between the lift and entrance gate there is one barrier where one has to swipe one’s card to get access and only one get through at a time just like entrance of concourse of Underground Metro Train in Kolkotta (I had seen it there for the 1st time). In the haste, they two might swipe the card at once and gate was not turning. And, here lift was again about to close. I heard them giggling. I pressed the stop button once more. Lift waits for about 30 seconds once we press stop button. Then they rush inside the lift before it closed for 3rd time. They both thanxed me as I made the lift wait for them. I just smiled to them.

I pressed 3 and one of them pressed 4. Oh. I guessed both were in same project in 4th floor. The lift was just about to pass 1st floor, One of them asked " Are you from Nepal?” looking at my T-shirt. I was wearing T-Shirt with the Logo of BAYOCA NEPAL ( Club of my brother , One of progressing NGO of Kathmandu) printed on it. I got it as the complementary gift from my brother when i went to Nepal last time as I am one of the dedicated well wishers of this (our) club. I thought she asked casually looking at my t-shirt and I answered simply YES.

There was no point to ask her where r u from in return? So I asked “In which project are you?" just to continue the conversation for one more floor coz by that time I saw 2 displayed in the lift. Just one more floor remaining, then I could escape. Both were in different projects in 4th floor. Lift was just about the reach 3rd floor, one replied “I am also from Nepal”. I was so surprised. Just speechless! She said she is from Siluguri. By that time lift door was already opened at 3rd floor. I was so confusion whether to say bye or just press stop button once more. I really wished to talk more with her as after long ™long time I met one Nepali (girl ) in my company. (Two years back, when I was fresher, I had met one Nepali gal. She was from Darjeeling. After that I never met her again because I got relocated to different location) Then I instantly decided to move one floor up and continued talking with her for couple of minutes. She was telling, she noticed me in the canteen itself from my face and was about to ask me in the canteen counter itself.

Then, she asked her friend that she would come later once reached 4th floor and we sat in one of the meeting rooms instead of going to her work place. I didn’t make out she is Nepali from her face as she is Brahmin and her face resembles normal Indian face. Then she said –“Didn’t
u see this Tilhari ( one red color necklace type ornament adorned with gold pendant, only worn by Nepali married women.) Oh U are married I replied. Though I saw that red color Tilhari in her neck in the lift itself, it didn’t click in my mind that it is worn only by Nepali women. While talking with her I came to know, she got married just a year ago and also joined company last year. Though from Siluguri, she speaks Nepali so well like typical Nepali and her ancestor home was in Baglung Distict near Pokhara in western Nepal. She had been Nepal for couple of times. I felt so nice to talk wid Nepali in late night in the office, else i always felt bore alone in my cubicle and comforted myself listening online songs and playing games.

While talking abt her past, She said she worked in Converges for 3 years before she joined Cognizant. Then i asked her -"I to also do have one friend who used work in the same company a year bac . Do u know her? She is also Nepali and her name is Rama." What a coincidence! She knew her and she told me she also had asked her the way she asked me “Are you Nepali?" feeling her face looks like Nepali. Oh! God.. We both laughed at once..

We expressed that we both were happy to meet each other. She was coming in night shift in the same project since last 3-4months. But we never had such coincidence before. This is S/W life. I asked her name again as I am very poor remembering the name of acquaintance. Then we exchanged the mobile number to be in touch and asked her to meet again. She asked me to give her miss call tomorrow before going canteen.

It is really so nice to meet person who speaks Nepali. This is just a coincidence. I thanked myself for wearing this T-shirt else i would miss this coincidence also.
